Trinamool leader claims son’s arrest is politically motivated

North 24 Parganas 25 November (HS). The opposition party has implicated my son and brother-in-law in a smuggling case for political reasons. Such a claim has been made by Trinamool leader Shankar Adya of Bangaon in North 24 Parganas regarding the arrest of his son and brother-in-law in gold smuggling case. The Trinamool leader said his son would appear every time the investigators called him for investigation.

The Central Customs Department or the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRO) on Thursday arrested Shubh Adya, son of former Bangaon municipality chairman Shankar Adya and current vice-chairman Jotsna Adya, in a gold smuggling case. Apart from this, Shankar’s brother-in-law and Jotsna’s brother Amit Ghosh have also been arrested in the same case. Although Shubh has got bail.

During a press conference on Friday, Shankar spoke of a political conspiracy being hatched against his family. Shankar said that we have our own business. On September 27, DRI sent summons to the director of our company. On receiving the summons, the officials of the company also appeared before him. My son was also called on Thursday. There he was arrested and taken to Bankshall Court. But they could not prove anything against my son, so he got bail.

It may be noted that on October 18, the DRI had arrested two persons with 26 gold biscuits from the Sealdah-Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express. Their names are Anupam Mitra and Alik Mandal. In the interrogation of these two, the name of Trinamool leader’s brother-in-law and son came to the fore. He appeared at the DRI office on Thursday morning. Both were arrested after questioning.

On the other hand, Bangaon BJP general secretary Devdas Mandal took a dig at Shankar’s allegations. He said that there should be a proper inquiry into the matter. Anyway, what business they do, everyone knows.
