To promote solar energy in the country, the Solar Rooftop Scheme is being run by the Ministry of Power. Solar panels can be installed on the roof of the house from any vendor involved in the discom. Under the solar panel scheme, if you get solar panels installed from a vendor affiliated to the discom, then the company takes the responsibility of maintaining the rooftop solar for 5 years.

After this a form will open, in which fill all the information. The subsidy amount is deposited in the beneficiary’s account by the Discom within 30 days of installation of solar panels.

How many solar panels do you need for a house?

If you want to generate electricity through solar panels to meet the needs of the house, then first of all you have to make a list of the electrical appliances running in the house. In a typical middle class family we run 2-3 fans, 1 fridge, 6-8 LED lights, 1 water motor and appliances like TV, cooler, press. In such a situation, 6 to 8 units of electricity is required per day. A 2 kW solar panel can be installed on the roof of your house for a daily production of 6 to 8 units.

Solar panels are available in the market with different technologies. Mono PERC bifacial solar panel is currently a new technology solar panel. The panel generates power from both the front and rear and is capable of meeting the daily needs of the family.

40 percent subsidy is given by the government for installing solar panels. If you install solar rooftop panels up to 3 kilowatts, then the central government gives a subsidy of up to 40 percent. Along with this, 20 percent subsidy will be available for installing solar panels up to 10 kW.

If you are installing 2 kilowatt solar panels on the roof, then it will cost around 1 lakh 20 lakh rupees. On getting 40 per cent subsidy in this, this cost will come down to Rs 72,000. You will get a subsidy of 48 thousand rupees from the Central Government. Solar panels last for about 25 years. Once the solar panel is installed, you will not have the tension of paying the electricity bill for about 25 years.
