Gwalior: Forest Department broke many illegal houses on Gupteshwar hill with JCB

Gwalior, 25 November (Hindustan Times). Taking action against encroachment on protected forest area Gupteshwar Pahadiya, the Forest Department on Friday demolished several illegal houses and huts with the help of JCB. During the action, along with the forest staff, the police force along with the officials of the revenue department was also present.

According to the information, many people have encroached on Gupteshwar hill (room no. 326), a protected forest area included in Tighra game range of Sonchiriya Sanctuary, Ghatigaon, and have built kutcha and pucca houses and huts etc. Those who were asked to remove the encroachment by issuing notices several times by the Forest Department, but the notices had no effect on them. In this sequence, notices were issued to 26 encroachers in the past, but this time also the encroachment was not removed.

On Friday, on the instructions of Divisional Forest Officer Brijendra Srivastava, a team of forest officers and employees under the leadership of Sonchiriya Sanctuary Superintendent Manoj Kataria was sent for action. The police force along with the officers and employees of the Revenue Department was also included in this team. This team of about 150 officers and employees along with JCB reached Gupteshwar hill at around 11 am. Where action was started to demolish illegal houses and huts. Seeing the heavy staff, the encroachers could not muster the courage to oppose the action. During this action which lasted till about five in the evening, the forest land was made safe by demolishing kutcha-pucca houses including huts and freeing them from encroachment.
