Yashwant Sinha may be the presidential candidate from the opposition
The presidential election is to be held on July 18, but all eyes are on the presidential candidates. Yashwant Sinha could be the presidential candidate from the opposition side. Yashwant Sinha is scheduled to attend the opposition meeting in Delhi today for the election of the Presidential candidate.
Ahead of attending the meeting, Yashwant Sinha tweeted that he is grateful to Mamata Banerjee for being accorded respect and prestige in TMC. Now the time has come when I should work for unity of opposition apart from the party for the larger national cause. I am sure the party will accept my move.
TMC will field Yashwant Sinha as its presidential candidate in the opposition meeting to be held today. According to reports, Sinha has agreed to the proposal after top Trinamool Congress leaders discussed the matter. Yashwant Sinha, on the other hand, announced his resignation from the party for major national reasons in a tweet before the meeting.
Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah and Gopal Krishna Gandhi have turned down the opposition’s offer. Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopal Krishna Gandhi on Monday thanked opposition leaders for nominating him for the post of President and expressed his desire not to contest the elections. In such a situation, the opposition can now field Yashwant Sinha.
