WHO needs to be reformed, WTO has become practical: Modi
India’s PM Modi has called for a radical change in the functioning of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Corona epidemic. WHO will have to simplify its rules. Modi said that along with the corona vaccine, medicines also reached the people equally. He said there is an urgent need to build a more resilient global health security amid the COVID pandemic.
He called for the WHO approval process to be simplified to allow the necessary equipment and methods for vaccines and treatments to keep the supply chain stable. He was speaking on the topic ‘Priority to Epidemic Prevention and Preparedness’ at the 2nd Global COVID Summit. He said the WTO also needs to be pragmatic in enforcing the rules, especially on the issue of travel. Empowering WHO is the need of the hour.
