Vijay Babu gets anticipatory bail in alleged rape case, victim’s family ‘disappointed’
Kochi: Reacting to the Kerala High Court’s order granting anticipatory bail to rape-accused actor-producer Vijay Babu on Wednesday, the victim’s family termed it “disappointing”. The actress’s father said that it is really disappointing that the court has granted bail to Vijay Babu.
The victim’s father said, “This will send a wrong message to the society at large that the rich and powerful will get away with anything. We will now speak to our legal experts to decide on the future course of action arising out of the judgment.” Who further said that her daughter has been in the film industry for the past few years and has a good track record.
While granting him anticipatory bail, the court asked Vijay Babu to appear before the police investigation team on June 27 and the police have been given seven days between June 27 and July 3 to interrogate him.
The court has also asked him not to leave the state under any circumstances. On 22 April, an actress from Kozhikode filed a complaint in Ernakulam that Vijay Babu raped and thrashed her several times in a flat in Kochi.
He also accused her of drugging her before sexually assaulting her.
As soon as the news surfaced, Vijay Babu appeared live on his social media handle claiming that he was the “real victim” in the case, adding that he would take appropriate legal steps against the complainant, whom he also named .
Apart from the primary complaint, the police have registered a second case against the complainant for revealing his name.
Vijay Babu, who had left the country after the actress filed a case against him, returned after the court granted him a temporary relief that he would not be arrested till his anticipatory bail plea was disposed of and until Even if the investigation team demands his presence, he should be produced before them, which he did.
After escaping from the country, he spent some time in the UAE and then moved to Georgia.
Meanwhile, Kochi city police commissioner CH Nagaraju said that they will leave no stone unturned in the investigation and will do their bit.
