VC of Bihar Agricultural University obtained information about 54 different species of date palm in Bikaner

Bikaner, May 11 (H.S.). Dr. Arun Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, visited the date farm of Swami Kesavanand Rajasthan Agricultural University and learned about 54 different species of dates and their value added products, pollination in dates etc. They were also informed about the arrangements and management like water system, irrigation care and fruit cover to protect the fruits from birds during the scorching summer.

Vice Chancellor Prof. RP Singh informed that Dr. Priyanka Kumawat has done pollination research work under the direction of Dr. RS Rathod during Ph.D. This type of research has been done for the first time on dates in the country. Under this, good results have been seen by making a solution of male palm pollen with water and using it in the pollination process. Dr. RS Rathod, in-charge of date palm farm informed that during the visit, Director of Research Dr. P. S. Shekhawat and Zonal Director of Research Dr. S. R. Yadav gave information about the climate, irrigation and management required for date palm cultivation.
