Ratna Rashid Banerjee has returned the ‘Annadashankar Roy Memorial Award’, from which the Academy honored her in the year 2019.

In a letter to Academy President and Education Minister Bratya Basu, Rashid Banerjee claimed that in view of the Akademi’s decision to confer a new literary award to the Chief Minister on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the award has become a “crown of thorns” for him. . Rashid Banerjee said, ‘In the letter, I have informed him about my decision to return the award with immediate effect. As a writer, I feel humiliated by the move of conferring the literary award to the Chief Minister. This will set a bad precedent. That statement of the Academy is a mockery of the truth, in which the relentless efforts of the Chief Minister have been praised in the field of literature. Ratna Rashid Bandyopadhyay said in a statement, I am returning the Annada Shankar Memorial Award given on 26 July 2019 with this letter.
