The number of ants on earth was estimated at 200 lakh crores
New Delhi: You know that the human population on Earth is more than eight billion, but do you know the population of ants? The population of ants is 200 lakh crores. Now one may wonder how to count the number of ants.
Together these 200 million ants produce 12 million tonnes of dry carbon. Not every bird and mammal on Earth produces that much carbon. The mass of dry carbon available on Earth is one-fifth of the human mass.
So now if you believe that the earth is run by humans then forget it. Years ago the famous biologist Edward O’Wilson said about ants that tiny creatures run the whole world. Now his words seem to be true. Ants are an important part of nature’s ecosystem. It maintains the level of air in the soil. Takes others from one place to another. Breaks down organic matter. Create habitable spaces for living things. Apart from this, it is also an important part of the food chain.
Examining the amount of sequestered carbon and the amount of carbon sequestered by populations of organisms on Earth shows how much Earth’s climate is changing. There are 15,700 species and subspecies of ants on Earth. There are still many species that have not been named. It teaches many things including social structure, harmony, rhythmic execution of chores and taking care of each other. It helps build and balance ecosystems around the world.
To determine the exact number of ants, the scientists studied documents written in Spanish, French, German, Russian, Mandarin and Portuguese. Scientists analyzed 498 studies on ant populations. This is more than 20 times the previously estimated population, which was reported in the study after studying 498, or about 500 species. Scientists from half a dozen universities and scientific institutions of the world participated in this study. The reason for this was that knowing the population of ants is essential if the human population on Earth is to be protected.
