Supreme Court dismisses plea for postponement of NEET PG 2022 exam

The top court, while dismissing a plea seeking postponement of the postgraduate entrance exam NEET-PG 2022, said it would affect thousands of students who have registered for the exam. The court said that the delay in the examination will affect the students preparing for the examination and there will be shortage of doctors in the hospitals and the care of the patients will be paramount.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachur heard the matter. The court said that the registration for NEET PG 2022 was closed on March 25. 2 lakh 6 thousand doctors have registered for the investigation. The court must note that this is a large group of students and the need for patient care cannot be ignored. Postponing the exam will create a situation of uncertainty.

The petition filed by the doctors mentions the conflict with the ongoing NEET PG counselling. Senior advocate Rakesh Khanna, appearing for the petitioner, explained to the bench that the dates were clashing. The petitioner sought postponement of the examination, saying that it clashed with the ongoing counseling process of NEET PG-2021 and there was not much time for preparation.

The doctors who have cleared NEET PG 2021 and secured low rank will have to wait till the last round to get the seat. However, the application process for NEET PG 2022 has also been closed. The counseling process ended on May 9. The exam will start from 21st May. Aspirants claim that this leaves very little time for preparation and may result in loss of one year.
