Sharad Pawar received death threats

Mumbai : Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar had received ‘death threats’ on social media a few days ago, due to which there has been a stir in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. The May 11 threat in Marathi, referring to the NCP supremo, said, “The time has come to prepare ‘Gandhi’ of Baramati and Nathuram Godse for Baramati.”

The tweet was posted by Nikhil Bhamre, which also read, “Baramati uncle, sorry.” Although the context in which the threats were issued is not clear, it has been liked and tweeted by many people in the past few days.

Taking serious note of the matter, NCP Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad expressed regret over the matter and asked the police to take strict action against the deranged person who threatened. He also drew the attention of the Director General of Police of Maharashtra and the Police Commissioners of Mumbai, Thane and Pune.

Expressing concern, Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande said there was no need to speculate as to which team was behind the threats to kill Pawar, as “everyone knows who worships Godse”, and home Urged Minister Dilip Walse-Patil to pay serious attention.

Congress state general secretary Sachin Sawant said that it is time for the people to think about where the efforts of Bharatiya Janata Party and Sangh Parivar to make the society violent and distorted have pushed the country. Several other political leaders of the ruling Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress have also taken to social media networks to condemn the threats made to 81-year-old Pawar.
