Raipur: Illegal sand mining: Collector closed all sand mines

Raipur , 24 June (H.S.). On Thursday, after the instructions of Collector Saurabh Kumar, the administration took swift action to stop illegal sand digging to its storage and transportation. The mining in-charge of the district, Simmi Nahid, first of all banned sand mining from all the sand quarries and caught illegal sand deposits by raiding at seven places. Cases were registered for illegally stocking huge quantity of sand against the prescribed rules of sand storage. While two trucks including a JCB machine were also seized from illegal sand storage sites.

Collector gave instructions to close all sand mines

As per the directions of the National Green Tribunal, Collector Saurabh Kumar has directed to stop digging sand immediately from all the sand mines operating in Raipur district. NGT has banned mining activities from rivers during the rainy season. In the state of Chhattisgarh, this period is fixed from June 10 to October 15. On this direction, the Collector has asked all the SDM and Revenue Officers including the officials of the Mineral Department to stop sand mining from the rivers of the district. On the instructions of the Collector, till late Thursday evening, the officials inspected several sand mines operating in the rivers and stopped sand mining.

Raiding action stirred sand mafia

The action of the administration against illegal sand mining, storage and transportation on the instructions of the Collector has stirred the sand mafia. Till late Thursday evening, the administration checked the sand deposits at many places in Hasaud, Nakta, Hardih, Paragaon. Contrary to the rules, huge amount of sand was found in seven places. After registering the case of illegal sand storage, the Mining Department has taken it into consideration. A JCB machine and two trucks engaged in the work of illegal sand storage, loading etc. have also been seized from these places. The seized JCB machine CG 04 ND 7609 is being told of some Raju Pal. Whereas the truck CG 04 J 1244 is being told of Mahendra Nirmalkar and CG 04 NS 8580 Gopal Agarwal. All these seized machines and vehicles have been handed over to Arang police station.

Late in the evening, on the instructions of the Collector, Arang SDM Atul Vishwakarma has also seized seven highway catches illegally transporting sand without royalty slips and documents during the investigation. These seven sand filled highways have also been handed over to the police at Arang police station.

To curb illegal sand storage and transportation, the officials of the administration also took a meeting of sand storers and transporters late on Thursday evening. In the meeting, everyone was instructed to store and transport sand according to the rules set by the government, royalty slip and standard instructions of NGT. It was also warned that against the rules and instructions, strict action would be taken against sand storage and transportation. . Along with this, instructions were also given to all the warehousing to make sand available to the general public at the right price. A warning of strict action was also given on the complaint of black marketing of sand, sale of sand at high prices. The Collector has also directed all the sub-divisional revenue officers of the district to keep an eye on illegal sand related activities in their respective jurisdictions. Saurabh Kumar has issued written instructions to all the SDMs asking them to take strict action against illegal storage, mining, transportation and selling sand at high prices.
