Presidential election 2022: Draupadi Murmu from Raloa for the presidency; Yashwant Sinha is the candidate of UPA
New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced its candidate for the presidential election. Former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu has been nominated. Ramnath Kovind was nominated in the last election. It has been decided to give chance to tribal women. BJP President J.P. Nadda (JP Nadda) made an announcement in this regard.
The BJP held a meeting and announced the candidate before announcing its presidential candidate. Earlier, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) had announced the candidature of Yashwant Sinha. The date for filing nomination for the post of President is June 29 and efforts were being made to get this election unopposed. However, the opposition parties have also announced candidates.
The BJP Parliamentary Board meeting was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chouhan to select the presidential candidate.
Draupadi Murmu is the former Governor of Jharkhand. Nadda said it has been decided to field women and tribal candidates from eastern India. Murmu hails from the state of Odisha. Draupadi Murmu is expected to become the first tribal woman president of independent India. In 2017 also the name of Draupadi Murmu was in the news. However, at that time BJP had fielded Ram Nath Kovind.
