The havoc of the scorching heat is still continuing, due to which people are yearning for hot water. At that time the people of Kherkuva village of Chhota Udepur district are forced to sit near the well for water in any condition and day and night without seeing it.

Water is life, life cannot be imagined without water. Monsoon has just started but it is still very hot. Due to this people are looking for water. One such village is Kherkuva village in Bodeli taluka of Chhota Udepur district where people, especially women, are killing Hawatias for water and two boats are seen struggling to quit their jobs for the day. It is the misfortune of Kherkuva village that the people of this village have not got enough water till now. The women here are saying that they have been fighting for water all their life.
All boreholes and hand pumps dried up without water
The population of Kherkuva village is about 700. There are about 20 hand pumps and bores in the village. All these bores and hand pumps have dried up without water. At present water comes from the only borehole in the village. And that too hardly ten-fifteen minutes, assuming that the water coming in this bore is very slow. And it takes about five minutes to fill one bed. And hardly two to three beds are able to fill, due to which the water of the bore drains out. As the water recedes, the women become helpless and sit by the well, waiting for the water to return to the bore. At the same time, some women say that they come to get water even at two-four o’clock in the night. Women say that there are frequent fights between women who come to fetch water.
Village children also have trouble going to school.
In the absence of water, even the children of the village face difficulty in going to school. And often children have to go to school without taking a bath. The women of the village also feel the time when they go to get water and if it takes more time then the housewives are talking. Even after fighting day and night for water, the women of Kherkuva village do not get enough water.
