The Karnataka government has banned the use of loudspeakers from 10 pm to 6 am amid the ongoing debate on loudspeakers. Karnataka government has said that Loudspeaker cannot be used without the permission of any officer , According to a government circular, “loudspeakers or public speaking systems (10 pm to 6 am) shall not be used except in auditoriums, conference rooms, community halls and banquet halls.”
An order of the Supreme Court has been cited in the circular. It states that in a public place where a loudspeaker or public address system or any other source is being used, the noise should be less than 10 dB(A) or 75 dB(A), depending on its vicinity. According to the circular, “The State Government reiterates that the orders of the Government under the Noise Pollution Rules 2000 are to be strictly followed and the noise pollution caused by loudspeakers/public address system and noise generating equipment is to be controlled.”
