Heavy rain in Delhi, traffic jam and water logging reported in many areas; travel advisory issued
New Delhi Delhi received heavy rains on Wednesday, bringing down the mercury, but waterlogging also occurred at many places, causing inconvenience to residents. Traffic jams were encountered in many areas of Delhi and vehicular movement was also slow in many places.
Traffic was mainly affected near Moolchand Underpass and Ashram area due to waterlogging. Traffic movement was also disrupted in the ITO area, the center of the capital’s workforce infamous not only for its after-hours traffic jams but chronic drainage problems.
It was not just the Minto Road and ITO area but large sections of South Delhi roads were submerged. The Haiderpur Badli Mor metro station area also witnessed heavy traffic as commuters complained of the problem they were facing.

According to the IMD report, “Delhi and adjoining areas will receive thunderstorms with moderate to heavy intensity. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly,” Delhi Traffic Police said on Twitter.
“Traffic will be heavy from Gopalpur to Mukundpur and till 1300 hrs due to the ceremony at Nirankari Ground. Commuters are advised to avoid stretch for today (August 3) and tomorrow (August 4),” Delhi Traffic Police said in another tweet.
MeT department issues warning of more heavy rain in Delhi
The Delhi Meteorological Department on Wednesday predicted moderate to heavy rains at isolated places in the city for the entire day. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers at isolated places over Delhi (Narela, Alipore, Karawal Nagar, Civil Lines, Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Shahdara Vivek Vihar), NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station) and nearby areas. The Meteorological Department said moderate to heavy rains would also occur at Kashmere Gate, Seelampur, Red Fort, Preet Vihar, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Rajiv Chowk, ITO, India Gate, Akshardham and Safdarjung during the day.
