Dhamtari: A group of Chanda elephants crushed to death a tribal Kamar woman sleeping in a hut
Dhamtari, 14 May (H.S.). In Dhamtari district, a team of Chanda elephants crushed to death a tribal Kamar woman sleeping in Kamar Dera of village Pardhi in South Singapore range last night. The woman’s body is lying mutilated at the site. As soon as the information about the incident was received on Saturday morning, the Forest Department and Magarlod Police reached the spot and started further proceedings. North Singapore Ranger PR Sahu said that on Friday night, a team of Chanda elephants had reached the Singapore area. Villagers were safely transported to another place by Gajraj vehicle on information about going towards Pardhi village of room number 84 encroachment area. In Kamardera, the Kamar woman had refused to go in the Gajraj vehicle.
Then around two o’clock when they went to bring the woman by vehicle, the team of Chanda elephants had reached the dera. Dantail Chanda A group of elephants destroyed the hut. Tribal Kamar woman Sukhma Bai Kamar, who was sleeping inside the hut, crushed to death Lakhnu Ram. Sahu told that the elephant team had reached the dera in search of Mahua. In Kamar Dera of Pardhi, a team of Chanda elephants ransacked the hut to smell Mahua and eat it. But the police have started investigation after establishing a road. It is known that this is the second such incident in Magarlod. Two tribal women have been crushed to death by Dantail elephants in the block. Earlier in November 2021, Dantail elephants crushed and killed a Kamar woman in Bhaluchuva.
