Applications for arms license will be online in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 13 (H.S.). Another chapter has been added to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal’s campaign to make maximum use of information technology in civil services today when the Chief Minister gave a green signal to make the process of making arms license online.

The Chief Minister was presiding over the review meeting convened on the arms license on Friday. In the meeting, the Chief Minister directed that the application process of arms license should be linked with the family identity card. For this, NIC, Citizen Resource Information Department and Home Department should work together. The Chief Minister was assured in the meeting that the entire process would be rectified in a month or two and this portal could be launched on July 1.

It was decided in the meeting that those who got arms license would have to take at least one week training in arms and firing from the police department. The Chief Minister was apprised that in the beginning, training can be imparted at the Police Training Centers of Madhuban, Karnal, Bhondsi, Gurugram, Sunaria, Rohtak and Rohtak, besides Haryana Police in the firing ranges of Sirsa, Narnaul, Jind and Kurukshetra.

The applicant of the license will also have to fill the option of training and a message will be sent on the applicant’s mobile regarding the training. It was also informed that licenses are granted under the Arms Act and amendments have been made in this Act in the year 2016 and in the year 2019. According to the Act, first arms licenses are given for the protection of crops and for the safety of the person himself. At present the duration of arms license is five years.

In the meeting, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister DS Dhesi, Principal Secretary V. Umashankar, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Rajiv Arora, Director General of Police PK Agarwal, IG CID Alok Mittal, Special Secretary of Home Department AS. Mann and NIC officials were present.
