The research analyzed 16 studies, which revealed that women who follow a Mediterranean diet more often have a 24 percent lower risk of heart disease. In this report published on Tuesday in the medical journal Heart, it has been said that the risk of death in these women was also 23 percent less. Unprocessed plant foods, red or processed meat, and dairy foods have been described in the Mediterranean diet. This also includes whole grains, vegetables, fruits and nuts.
What came out in the research
However, according to studies, the effect of this type of diet on heart disease is not usually focused only on women. This diet is as beneficial for men as it is for women. The researchers acknowledged the limitations of their work, including that the study was largely observational. Which means that these researches cannot show cause and effect.
Mediterranean diet
It has long been believed that the Mediterranean diet is good for our hearts. But health experts are more excited about this research that the effect of this diet is same for men as well as women.
