Jaggery contains about 65-70 percent sucrose, while white sugar contains 99.5 percent sucrose. That’s why if you want, instead of sugar, add jaggery to your coffee and drink it.
Dr. Nigam said that jaggery contains less sucrose than white sugar, so glucose levels rise slowly after consuming it. Jaggery may not have the same effect on blood sugar levels as refined sugar, but jaggery is said to be beneficial for diabetics because of an important factor called the glycemic index.
Why do people like to eat jaggery and why do the elders of the house recommend to include jaggery in daily life?
