Because according to a new research, sanitary napkins made in India can cause deadly diseases like cancer. It has been revealed in this research that dangerous chemicals are being used to make these sanitary napkins. Not only this, there is also a possibility of diabetes and heart disease from these chemicals.

What does the research say?

The study is part of a trial run by the International Pollution Abatement Network through Toxics Link, a Delhi-based NGO. The study included products from 10 brands of sanitary napkins sold in India.

During this study, researchers found phthalates and some trace amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in all samples. Both these pollutants are capable of forming cancer cells. This research has been published in ‘Menstrual Waste 2022’.

Exposure to Phthalates chemicals can lead to cancer, diabetes and heart disease. This can also have a bad effect on the fertility of the woman. On the other hand exposure to VOCs affects mental ability. It can also lead to asthma and some types of cancer.

The team of experts who conducted the study said that harsh chemicals have a greater effect on the skin of the vagina than on other parts of a woman’s body. This also increases the risk of serious diseases like cancer.

How many women in India use sanitary napkins?

According to a report, 64.4 percent of women aged 15 to 24 in India use sanitary pads. In the last few years, there has been an increase in awareness about the use of sanitary pads. Sanitary napkins are used to avoid serious diseases during menstruation. But through research, the chemicals found in napkins have been found beneficial for health.
