Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala, which came in 2013, was a remake of the 1983 Jitendra, Sridevi, Kader Khan, Amjad Khan starrer Himmatwala (Director: K. Raghavendra Rao). Exactly 30 years after the original film, i.e. in 2013, Sajid Khan tried to repeat history by remaking the film. But did not succeed. Despite having dazzling names like Ajay Devgan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Adhyayan Suman, Zarina Wahab in the film, it fell flat at the box office. Most of the collection came from single theatres. The audience of the multiplexes did not give it any value, from where a huge part of the film’s earnings comes. Sajid Khan did a remake of the film, but he did not manage to create magic among the audience, which was seen in the original Himmatwala. Jitendra-Sridevi’s film then made a box office of five crores, which is equal to 75 crores today. It was a super hit film of 1983. In the same year Coolie (Amitabh Bachchan), Betaab (Sunny Deol) and Hero (Jackie Shroff) also became super hit with this film.

why did it flop
The biggest reason for Himmatwala’s flop was Sajid Khan himself. First of all, he did the remake of the film in such a way that he is making a spoof of the original film. making fun of him. Not a single scene in the film showed that it was made seriously. Anyway, a star who worked with him said about Sajid that he himself did not know what Sajid was going to do. Everything happens in his mind and he goes on doing it. Be it right or wrong. The film is ready, then it comes to the fore what they have done. What was to be a film and what did it become? In this style, he made Himmatwala’s making. Another reason why the film was a flop was that the subject he chose was neither classic nor the story was according to the times. Sajid got the actors doing loud acting in the film. Every artist was seen screaming and doing loud acting in the film. Only two songs from the film were good and that too were hit songs from the old film.
Ajay Devgan knew what would be the result
In an interview after the release of the film, Ajay Devgan confessed that he knew that the film would be a flop. He said that the story of the film was in the 1980s and Sajid could not show that period in his film. He just picked up the story of the film. But Sajid could not shoot that period in a contemporary way. As in Ajay’s another film Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, that time was kept on the screen as it is. This is the reason why Ajay Devgan looked uncomfortable in many scenes of Himmatwala. Looked out of form. It was during the shooting that Ajay understood that the bad were trapped. As far as Sajid Khan is concerned, he directed six films in his career. Hey Baby and Housefull was a hit among them. The other four flops.
