Samantha’s Yashoda OTT release stalled, inside information
The Hyderabad City Civil Court has issued orders to stop the OTT release of Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s latest film Yashoda on the basis of a petition filed by a city hospital. The court has banned the streaming of the film on the OTT platform till 19 December. As per reports Yashoda revolves around the irregularities going on in a surrogacy fertility center named ‘Eva’.
Incidentally there is a hospital of the same name in the city. The management of ‘Eva Hospital’ filed a petition in the City Civil Court, seeking an order to stop Yashoda’s OTT release, claiming that their reputation was tarnished due to the name of their hospital being featured in the film, and their The hospital was portrayed in a bad light. Along with this, the city court issued a notice to the producers and ordered them not to show the film in OTT till December 19 and further hearing was adjourned till December 19.
Yashoda released on 11 November and opened to a good response at the box office. The Samantha Ruth Prabhu film proved to be a crowd-puller and the film crossed the Rs 33 crore mark worldwide within ten days of its release. The medical thriller was made on a budget of Rs 40 crore.
The film has now almost wrapped up its theatrical run and is headed for its OTT premiere. Yashoda was expected to start streaming on Prime Video in the second week of December and the makers were hoping for a better run of the thriller on OTT. Directed by Hari-Harish, the film stars Samantha in the lead along with Unni Mukundan, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and Murali Sharma and is produced by Shivalenka Krishna Prasad under the Sridevi Movies banner. As of now, the makers are yet to give an official statement regarding the court orders.
