Mumbai Actor Anupam Kher, who has this year’s successful Indian films ‘Kashmir Files’, ‘Karthikeya 2’ and ‘Unchai’ to his credit, says he is ready to get back behind the camera. Speaking to Variety at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Anupam Kher said, “I would love to direct. After a long time, a story has come to me. My niece is autistic and I have a grandfather. And a story about his autistic granddaughter who lives together. I already have a rough outline. Once I write the script, I can start by the end of this year or next year.”
As per reports in Variety, such a move will come twenty years after his feature directorial debut, 2002’s ‘Om Jai Jagdish’.
He is also set to begin shooting for Canadian filmmaker Isha Marzara’s ‘Calories’, which he co-produced in Film Bazaar in 2016.
Produced by Joe Ballas of Compass Productions and FilmOption International, it is an inter-generational tale of three women whose past lives collide during an emotionally charged summer trip to India.
Anupam Kher said, “It’s a very good script. Unfortunately, it has been delayed, but I will be shooting for it. It will be shot in Canada and India.”
Due to personal reasons, Anupam Kher had to cut short his contract on the NBC medical series ‘New Amsterdam’. But he has his hands full with projects in India. Apart from ‘Connect’, he has produced and acted in Gajendra Ahire’s ‘Signature’, which he recently tweeted, is his 525th film.
Anupam Kher will also be seen in Sankalp Reddy’s ‘IB71’, Satish Kaushik’s ‘Kaagaz 2’, Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ and a web series by Neeraj Pandey, reports Variety.
Anupam Kher conducted a masterclass on ‘Performing for Screen and Theatre’ at IFFI 2022.
