Lyricist Papon, who has won hearts with his songs, has represented Assam and its musical heritage at international fora like the Cannes Film Festival. Taking it a notch higher once again, Papon will be performing at the Lachit Divas celebrations in Delhi. On this occasion, the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom General Lachit Borphukan will be celebrated. So on the same day Papon also celebrates his birthday.
The festival will run from 23 to 25 November
Lachit Divas is a regional public holiday in the Indian state of Assam, observed on 24 November each year. The day commemorates the valor of Late Lachit Borphukan and the victory of the Assamese army in the Battle of Saraighat. This time the celebrations of Lachit Diwas will last for 3 days in New Delhi, which will end with a three-day closing ceremony from 23rd to 25th November.
Papon told himself lucky
Talking about his performance, Papon says, “It is always an honor for me to represent my home state. I am humbled that I have been invited to perform at such a prestigious occasion. I Very fortunate that my birth date is the great Mahabir Lachit Borphukan’s birth date. I am looking forward to performing some famous Assamese songs representing my home state.”
PM Modi can also be involved
The event will see the presence of prominent political leaders including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi. The 400th birth anniversary of the great warrior of Ahom dynasty, Bir Lachit Borphukan, has been organized on 23rd November with a grand program at Vigyan Bhawan along with an exhibition on 600 years old history of Ahom dynasty.
