Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana: Back to Ujjwala Yojana? 4 crore beneficiaries did not fill LPG cylinder even once in 5 years
PM Ujjwala Yojana: The price of LPG cylinder used for cooking is increasing continuously, due to which the budget of the common man has collapsed. Now the central government has announced important measures regarding the sale of LPG cylinders. In the last five years, information has come out that about 4.13 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) did not ask for gas cylinders for the second time.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum Rameshwar Teli gave written information in the Parliament. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress MP Pramod Tiwari had sought information from the government about the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme that they are not filling their LPG gas cylinders for one or less cylinders in the last five years. Responding to this, Rameshwar Teli said, in the last five years 4.13 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana have not filled their cylinder even once. He said that 7.67 crore beneficiaries refilled their LPG cylinders only once.
According to Rameshwar Teli, LPG cylinder sales depend on the food habits of the people, the total number of members living in the household and other fuel options. In the year 2021-22, out of the total 30.53 crore active LPG consumers, 2.11 crore people did not fill their LPG cylinders for the second time. So 2.91 crore LPG consumers have filled their gas cylinder only once.
According to the Minister of State for Petroleum, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders fluctuate and the subsidy amount is transferred to the accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
