However, domestic consumers will have to wait longer to take advantage of the fall in crude oil. Oil companies have announced new prices of petrol and diesel today and on August 3, petrol and diesel will be sold at the old price. Today, for more than 2 consecutive months, the prices of petrol and diesel have remained unchanged and the prices have remained stable. The price of petrol in the capital Delhi is Rs 96.72 per liter. The cost of a liter of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 106.35.
Crude oil prices fall
Crude oil prices fell on Monday following weak cues from economies across the world. Prices were close to this level on Tuesday. Traders are currently taking a cautious approach in the OPEC meeting, which is putting pressure on the prices. The Brent price for the October contract is nearing the $100 per barrel level. It has fallen a long way from its highs but prices are still very high so consumers may have to wait longer for oil price relief. Oil prices have two parts. The first part is directly linked to crude oil prices while the second part is linked to government taxes. Despite the fall, crude oil prices remained elevated. Due to uncertainty in the economy, the government does not want to reduce the tax revenue, due to which the prices of petrol and diesel are at a high level.
