Important news for WhatsApp users! Now you have to pay ‘so much money’ for Whatsapp?
There are many apps including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram which are available for absolutely free voice and video calling. However, this feature will be discontinued soon. According to a report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to consider the proposal after regulating internet-based calls. If this happens then a big problem can arise.
Instant messaging platform WhatsApp is used by a large number of people. The number of users in India is more than 400 million. But now you have to pay to use WhatsApp. These speculations are being made after the draft of the new telecom bill. The government has prepared the draft Indian Telecom Bill 2022.
Must have telecom license
Calling and messaging service apps like WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom, Telegram and Google Duo will now have to be licensed. To operate in India, they will need a license like telecom companies. At the same time, OTT platforms have also been included in the new telecom bill.
Since then there are speculations that people will have to pay fees for WhatsApp calling and other apps. Because these apps now require a license for operation. However, how to get this license and how much money will be spent on other apps including WhatsApp, is not known.
What are the licensing provisions?
The government has also added some provisions regarding license fees in the bill. Under this, the government has the right to waive the license fee partially or fully. Along with this, the provision of refund has also been added. If a telecom or internet provider surrenders his license, he can get a refund.
It is possible that companies may charge a fee for their platform or may require you to subscribe to use certain services. Apart from this, companies can also give you free services through advertisements. At present, the government has sought suggestions from the public on the draft bill till October 20. Only then will the situation become clear.
Many new provisions have been added
As per the new bill, all telecom service providers will have to obtain a license and comply with the telecom operator rules. Telecom operators were demanding this for the last several years. Also, if a telecom company goes bankrupt, the government will have control over the spectrum allotted to it.
Telecom operators have been demanding a uniform law for all internet-based calling and messaging services for a long time. The report also said that the license fee should be paid equally. Along with this the quality of service should also be the same. If this happens, users may be charged for calls made from other apps including Google Duo, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Signal, Telegram, etc. Now it is necessary to see how much fees and charges will be levied on these services or how much money will be charged from the customers.
What is WhatsApp’s plan?
There will be no change in the app for common users and it will be available for free. The subscription plan will be completely optional and additional services will be available on the business account. To a large extent, this feature will be similar to Twitter Blue, which is a subscription-based service.
