Hero MotoCorp, Hindustan Petroleum partner to set up EV charging stations for two wheelers across India

New Delhi: Hero MotoCorp and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have joined hands to set up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the country. As a part of the initiative, the companies will set up charging infrastructure for two-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) across the country, thereby promoting mass mobility towards an electrified future.

According to media reports, Hero MotoCorp and HPCL will first set up charging infrastructure in HPCL’s existing network of nationwide power stations, after which the collaboration is likely to widen for complementary business opportunities.

In the first phase, charging stations will be set up in select cities, which will later be expanded to other key markets with the aim of establishing high density of EV charging station networks across India.

Hero MotoCorp will lead the infrastructure development for the charging network. Each charging station will have multiple smart and fast chargers including DC and AC chargers which will be available for all two wheeler electric vehicles. The entire user charging experience will be handled by the Hero MotoCorp mobile-app based on the cashless transaction model.

“HPCL as a major player in the energy sector is committed to provide sustainable energy solutions to our valued customers. Our vast network of over 20,000 retail outlets and Hero MotoCorp’s strong presence in the two wheeler segment brings together a unique strategic partnership to build a pan-India electric charging infrastructure and provide end-to-end EV charging solutions. This is significant, as more than 60% of EVs sold in India are two-wheelers and hence, a robust charging ecosystem for them is the need of the hour so that there is no worry among electric two-wheeler owners. autocarpro.in quoted Dr. Pushp Kumar Joshi, Chairman and Managing Director, HPCL as saying.

The announcement of the collaboration comes a few weeks before Hero MotoCorp is pushing itself into the electric two-wheeler market. The company is set to launch its first electric two-wheeler under the Vida brand in India on 7 October.
