Airtel to launch 5G services in India by the end of August

New Delhi: Airtel will launch 5G services in India by the end of August. In a press note, Airtel announced partnerships with Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia to launch their 5G services in a calibrated manner.

Airtel has bought spectrum of 19867.8 MHz in the recently conducted spectrum auction by DoT (Department of Technology). It has acquired spectrum in 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz frequencies. 5G services will deliver ultra high speed, low latency and high data handling for an improved user experience and new, innovative use with enterprises and customers.

  • Airtel was one of the three big telecom giants in India to bid in the 5G spectrum auction conducted by DoT (Department of Technology) – the other two being Jio and Vodafone.
  • It acquired spectrum of 19867.8 MHz in 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz frequencies.

  • Airtel was the first telecom company to conduct 5G trials in India by conducting trials at multiple locations with multiple partners
  • In addition, Airtel also conducted India’s first rural 5G trial and the first cloud gaming experience on 5G for the successful deployment of India’s first captive private network on the test spectrum.
  • The other two major telecom operators – Jio and Vodafone – are yet to announce their target time period for launching 5G services.
