100% increase in the prices of fresh flowers as soon as the wedding season starts

Mumbai: With the wedding season in full swing in the current year, the demand for ornamental flowers as well as miscellaneous items has increased exponentially, resulting in a 100 per cent increase in the prices of fresh flowers.

It is estimated that 75 percent of annual flower sales are for weddings.

Sources in an event management company said that as fresh flowers have become costlier in recent years, there has been an increase in the use of fresh flowers as well as artificial flowers for decoration at wedding ceremonies.

India’s nearly $50 billion wedding market has boomed again in the current year after the impact of Corona and is expected to witness around 32 lakh marriages across the country in the period from November 2022 to February 2023.

Last year, 25 lakh marriages took place during this period. It is also expected that Rs 3.75 lakh crore will be spent on weddings in the current year as compared to Rs 3 lakh crore last year.

North India is witnessing maximum number of marriages in the country. After Corona, it is seen that the list of guests is being cut in functions like marriage. Sources in the event management company said that the hosts have become very strict in the selection of guests.
