Sambhal: An ASI team on Saturday surveyed an old well in the Kalki Vishnu temple complex in Sambhal. A day earlier, the ASI had surveyed a recently discovered temple in the district. Pandit Mahendra Prasad Sharma of the ancient ‘Kalki Vishnu’ temple said that it is a good thing that the survey team has come here. He said, “There is a ‘Krish Kup’ (well) here. It is not closed, but there is no water in it. This well is also described in Skanda Purana, all the pilgrimage sites of Sambhal are described in Skanda Purana, and Varaha section of Skanda Purana also has a complete description of the Kalki temple. This well is inside the temple complex, it was inside the old boundary.”

ASI team waited for 15 minutes

Meanwhile, Sambhal’s sub-district magistrate Vandana Mishra said, “An ASI team had come to the ‘Prachin Kalki Vishnu’ temple. There is a ‘Krishya Kup’ here, which is said to be an ancient well. The team stayed there for about 15 minutes and they also visited the temple.” Another senior official said that Saturday’s development is important because it happened a day after a four-member ASI team surveyed the recently discovered Shri Kartik Mahadev temple, five ‘tirthas’ (pilgrimage sites) and 19 ‘koops’ (wells).

The survey was also done yesterday

Meanwhile, Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia told reporters on Friday, “A four-member team of ASI started the survey in the morning. This survey continued till 3:30 pm. In this, the ASI team surveyed five pilgrimage sites and 19 wells of Sambhal and also surveyed the new temple (Shri Kartik Mahadev Temple).” The DM said that “We had already measured all these places, but ASI has done the survey today.” Pensia said, “Among these wells, 19 wells including Chaturmukh Koop, Moksha Koop, Dharma Koop and five pilgrimage sites including Bhadrak Ashram, Swargdeep and Chakrapani were surveyed. Along with this, the new temple (Kartik Mahadev) that has been found has also been surveyed by ASI. We had already measured all these places, but ASI conducted the survey today.”

The temple opened after 46 years

Officials had said that three broken idols were found in the well of Bhasm Shankar temple, which was opened last week after being closed for 46 years in Sambhal. Shri Kartik Mahadev Temple (Bhasm Shankar Temple) was reopened on December 13. Officials had said that they had found this structure during the anti-encroachment drive. The idol of Lord Hanuman and Shivling was installed in the temple. It was closed since 1978. There is also a well near the temple which the officials had planned to reopen.
