Dhaka: Bangladesh is furious over a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Vijay Diwas.  Bangladesh’s interim government’s legal advisor Asif Nazrul has condemned the ‘post’ made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media on the occasion of Vijay Diwas and said that in this victory “India was only an ally, nothing more than that.” Vijay Diwas is celebrated to commemorate the surrender of the Pakistani army to the Indian Army on 16 December 1971.

Let us tell you that Bangladesh came into existence due to India’s historic victory. Nazrul’s comment was also shared on social media by the office of Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus. Modi had shared a post on the social media platform paying tribute to the contribution of Indian soldiers in the historic victory of 1971. Attaching a screenshot of that post, Nazrul wrote on Facebook in Bengali on Monday, “I strongly oppose this.

Bangladesh’s Victory Day is celebrated on 16 December

December 16, 1971 is the victory day of Bangladesh. India was only an ally in this victory, nothing more than that.” The Daily Star newspaper reported on Tuesday that Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus’ press secretary Shafiqul Alam shared Nazrul’s post. Meanwhile, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement convenor Hasnat Abdullah also criticized Modi’s post. He wrote on Facebook that it was Bangladesh’s liberation war and it was for Bangladesh’s independence against Pakistan. He said that Modi claimed that it was completely India’s war and its achievement and in his statement the existence of Bangladesh was ignored. He said, “When India calls this independence its achievement, I see it as a threat to our freedom, sovereignty and unity.

Bangladesh completed 54 years of independence

It is necessary for us to fight against this threat posed by India. We have to continue this fight.” Modi wrote on ‘X’ on Monday, “Today, on Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifice of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971.” He said their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve protected the country. He said, “This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and their unflinching spirit. Their sacrifice will always inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in the history of our country.” Yunus, on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, said on Monday that this Vijay Diwas is more important because this year “the world’s worst autocratic government” was ousted from power.

90 thousand Pakistani soldiers surrendered

Yunus did not mention Bangladesh’s founding leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his speech on the occasion of Vijay Diwas. Mujibur Rahman’s daughter and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave power on August 5 after student protests against her Awami League government. There was also no mention of India’s role in Yunus’ address to the nation on Vijay Diwas. India celebrates 16 December as Vijay Diwas. On this date in 1971, more than 90,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh. Many Indian leaders, including President Draupadi Murmu, paid tribute to the heroes of the 1971 war on Monday.
