Donald Trump, who is soon going to take oath as the President of America, has once again threatened tariffs. Trump has threatened to impose reciprocal tax on India. He says that we will impose the same tax on Indian products as India imposes on American products. Trump has been opposing the imposition of “high tariffs” on the import of some American products by India for a long time. He talks about imposing reciprocal tariffs in response to this.

What did Trump say?

Speaking to the media, Trump said, “If they put high tariffs on us, we will put them on them too. They put taxes on us, we will put them on them. They put taxes on us in almost all matters, they are putting taxes on us and we don’t put taxes on them.” He said, “If India puts 100 percent tax on us, should we not put any tax on them?” Trump said that India and Brazil are among the countries that put high tariffs on some American products. Trump said, “If they put taxes on us, that’s fine, but we are also going to put the same amount of tax on them.”

Trump’s commerce secretary supports him

Donald Trump’s statements have been supported by the next Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. He said, ‘Reciprocity will be an important topic in the Trump government. You should expect to be treated the same way as you treat us.’ Lutnick said that whoever does what, he will be treated the same way.

This threat was given earlier

Recently, Donald Trump had said that he would impose 100 percent tariff on countries adopting the BRICS currency. Formed in 2009, BRICS is the only major international group of which the US is not a part. Its other members are South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the past few years, some of its member countries, especially Russia and China, have been looking for an alternative to the US dollar or creating their own BRICS currency. Trump had warned the BRICS countries against such a move.
