Election In Bagladesh: The interim government has been ruling Bangladesh since the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted from power. The head of this interim government is Mohammad Yunus. Since taking power, the interim government has been asked to announce the dates of elections. Now amid increasing pressure, Mohammad Yunus has said that elections will be held in late 2025 or early 2026.

Yunus has spoken about reform

Major political parties, including the BNP headed by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, want elections in the country soon, Dhaka Tribune reported. Despite criticism and protests, Yunus has not announced the dates of the elections, only the timing. Regarding the dates of the elections, Yunus said that he has repeatedly appealed to everyone to hold elections after completing major reforms.

What else did Muhammad Yunus say?

Mohammad Yunus said that if political consensus is reached, errors in the voter list can be removed with minor corrections, then it may be possible to hold elections by the end of 2025. He said that if we work on the basis of the required level of reforms in the election process and consensus on the recommendations of the Election Reforms Commission, then it may take at least six more months.

This is how elections are held in Bangladesh

Meanwhile, let us also tell you that Bangladesh also has the same electoral process as India’s Lok Sabha elections. Here the election of members of Parliament is done just like in India. That is, the candidate who gets even one vote more will win. After the election results are out, the MPs of the largest party or coalition elect their leader and he becomes the Prime Minister. There are a total of 350 seats in the Parliament here. Out of these, 50 seats are reserved for women. There are no elections on reserved seats, while general elections are held every five years for 300 seats.
