CCTV footage of the bus that crushed several people and vehicles in Kurla, Mumbai has surfaced. In this video, it can be seen that as soon as the bus that killed seven people stopped, all the passengers jumped out of the window. In the CCTV footage, the driver Sanjay More can be seen collecting his bags after the accident and jumping out of the broken window. Several video clips of the bus footage are going viral on social media, in which the passengers are seen panicking.
An electric bus went out of control on Monday night in Kurla, Mumbai. This bus hit several vehicles and pedestrians. Due to which seven people died and many others were injured.
Passengers got scared as the speed of the bus increased
It can be seen in the video that the bus was moving normally at first, but suddenly the speed of the bus increased. In such a situation, the passengers got scared and held the handle/pole tightly. Some passengers were looking out of the window and trying to understand what was happening. As soon as the bus stopped, the passengers started jumping out of the windows. Most of the passengers did not try to get out of the bus gate, because there they had to wait for their turn. Driver Sanjay More also picked up two bags from his cabin and jumped out of the window, while the bus conductor got down from the rear door.
42 people injured in bus accident
The BEST bus crashed on SG Barve Road in Kurla around 9.30 pm on Monday, killing seven people and injuring 42 others. Police later arrested the driver, Sanjay More, and charged him with culpable homicide and sent him to police custody till December 21. The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) shared a preliminary assessment report with the police, stating that the bus had no technical fault.
The driver got only three rounds of training
More told the police on Wednesday that he was only given three rounds of training on the e-bus by the wet lease contractor, appointed by the transport utility to run the fleet. This is contrary to BEST’s internal standard operating procedure (SOP), according to which drivers switching from manual to e-buses have to undergo a six-week refresher. Top officials of BEST and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) also held a meeting with private operators on Wednesday to focus on training of drivers and additional safety measures.
The investigation report will be given to the state government
BEST said it will also make breath analyser tests mandatory for drivers in the wake of the Kurla accident. In the meetings, officials also sought information from private operators about the training given to drivers, their appointment criteria, training infrastructure and modules. BEST has been directed to conduct an internal inquiry into the accident and submit a report, which will be sent to the state government, officials said.
