Major incident at Tuskegee University, one person killed, 16 injured in shooting

One person died in a shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama, USA. 16 people are reported to be injured in this incident. According to officials, 12 of the injured have been shot. 18-year-old youth died

Meanwhile, the shooter has been arrested. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said that 25-year-old Jacquez Myrick of Montgomery was detained while leaving the scene of the shooting on campus and a handgun along with a machine gun was also recovered from him. The agency said in a statement that Myrick faces federal charges of possessing a machine gun. Officials said that the 18-year-old youth who died was not a student of the university, but some of the injured were students.

Classes are canceled today.

Tuskegee University announced that classes were canceled today. The victim’s parents have been notified, the university said in a statement. Several of the injured were being treated at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley told The Associated Press on Sunday that an autopsy was planned on the 18-year-old at the state forensic center in Montgomery.

A female student was also among the injured.

Tuskegee City Police Chief Patrick Mardis said the injured included a female student who was shot in the abdomen and a male student who was shot in the arm. Mardis said city police were responding to an unrelated double shooting off campus when officers received a call about a shooting at the university’s campus apartments in West Commons.
