According to the mythological tale, King Priyamvad had no children, then Maharishi Kashyap performed Putrayeshti Yagya. The king gave the kheer prepared for the yagya to Queen Malini. Due to its effect, they got a son but the child was born dead. Priyamvad took the body of his dead son to the crematorium and started giving up his life in the grief of his son. Then God’s daughter Devsena appeared. She told Priyamvad that I am called Shashthi because I am born from the sixth part of the basic nature of the creation. O King! You worship me and inspire others too. The king, with a true desire to have a son, observed the fast of Goddess Shashthi and he was blessed with a son.
