The closed schools

The condition of air quality in Pakistan’s Lahore city has become extremely dangerous. Due to this, the authorities closed all primary schools for a week on Monday. According to the information received, this has been done to protect children from breathing problems and other diseases in the city with a population of 1.4 crores. Let us tell you that the air quality in Lahore, the capital of East Punjab province bordering India, started deteriorating last month. Thousands of people, including children and the elderly, started falling ill due to toxic smoke. 

Ban on construction work.

Given air pollution, the government has also banned construction work in some areas. Apart from this, owners of vehicles emitting excessive smoke are being fined. According to a press release issued by the government, schools will remain closed for a week due to pollution. The Punjab Environmental Protection Department said that the concentration of pollutant PM 2.5 in the air has reached close to 450, which is considered dangerous. Let us tell you that Lahore was once known as the city of gardens, which were seen almost everywhere from the 16th to the 19th century. However, later due to rapid urbanization and increasing population growth, there is very little space left for greenery.
