Modi government has given Diwali gifts to pensioners. The central government issued an order to give additional installments of dearness relief for pensioners. On October 16, the Union Cabinet approved an additional installment of three percent dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) to central government employees as well as pensioners. This increase was made from July 1, 2024. The Ministry of Personnel said in a statement that the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare issued an order on October 30, 2024, for all central government pensioners/family pensioners. According to the statement, now central government pensioners including family pensioners are entitled to receive a higher amount of dearness allowance and dearness relief. Under this, they will receive a 53 percent dearness allowance and dearness relief instead of 50 percent of their basic pension/family pension. This increase will be effective from July 1. That is, pensioners will get the outstanding amount due to the increased allowance for the last four months.
The Punjab government also gave a gift.
The Punjab government has increased the dearness allowance for state government employees and pensioners by 4 percent. According to an official statement, giving a Diwali gift to the families of over 6.50 lakh Punjab government employees and pensioners, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday announced a 4 percent hike in their dearness allowance. According to a statement issued quoting a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Minister has approved a 4 percent dearness allowance (DA) to the employees and pensioners from November 1. Thus, the DA has increased from 38 percent to 42 percent.
More than 6.50 lakh employees benefited.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that this decision will benefit more than 6.50 lakh employees, pensioners, and their families. Describing the employees as an important part of the state administration, he said that protecting their interests and ensuring their welfare is the top priority of the government.
