What did China say after PM Modi-Xi meeting in BRICS, how much scope is there for improvement in bilateral relations?

Beijing: China issued a big statement on Thursday after the bilateral talks between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit going on in Kazan, Russia. China has described the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping as “extremely important”. China says that after this meeting, the two leaders have reached an “important consensus” to improve bilateral relations. This is a big sign of improvement in bilateral relations.

On the scope of improvement in India-China relations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters here, “PM Modi and Xi Jinping have reached important consensus on improving and developing China-India relations. This has paved the way for bringing bilateral relations back on the path of stable development.” On the question of how Beijing views the outcome of the meeting, Lin said that China is ready to view bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective and work with India to move it forward.

After this bilateral meeting, Lin said that China would resolve its differences with India. It is also ready to enhance communication and cooperation, increase mutual strategic trust, and bring bilateral relations back on the path of stable development as soon as possible. Modi and Xi, who met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, supported Monday’s India-China agreement on patrolling and withdrawal of troops on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. After this, instructions were issued to reactivate various bilateral dialogue mechanisms, indicating efforts to normalize relations affected by a deadly military clash in 2020.
