The festival season is going on. Most people shop during this time. Nowadays digital payment is used a lot in shopping. However, some customers often ignore important security measures amidst the increase in shopping during the festive season, which results in them losing money and also facing problems on an emotional level. NPCI has asked the buyers to be careful during the festive season and has also given some important advice while cautioning them.
Don’t rush into shopping.
Being hasty or careless in the pursuit of attractive offers and discounts can harm you. There is a high possibility that you may make a hasty purchase as soon as you see a great offer. In a hurry to cash in on such offers, you may often ignore whether the platform is legitimate or not. Get enough information about sellers you have not heard of and whose business seems unreliable, only then decide on the purchase.
Do not share personal information.
Whenever signing up for an offer, do not share too much personal information that is not necessary as this increases the risk of data theft. NPCI says that do not use unsecured networks like open Wi-Fi networks in shopping malls to make purchases as this may expose your financial information to hackers.
Avoid falling prey to phishing scams.
During the festive season, customers tend to forget what they have ordered amid the surge in shopping, which can make them vulnerable to phishing scams. Always double-check the payment link before clicking on it to avoid fake delivery notifications. Avoid using simple or default passwords for your accounts, as this can make you an easy target for a hacker. Create strong, unique passwords for each account to increase security.
