Berlin: US President Joe Biden said on Friday that he knows everything about when and how Israel will attack Iran, but he will not give details. Biden’s statement came after the Israeli army killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza on Thursday. He said that Israel has an opportunity to deal with Iran in a way that will potentially end their conflict in the Middle East for some time.
Speaking to reporters at the end of his Berlin visit, Biden said he had an understanding of how and when Israel was going to retaliate against Iran’s missile attacks. But he declined to elaborate. Tehran had simultaneously attacked Tel Aviv with 180 missiles on October 1. Now Israel is planning to respond to this missile attack by Iran. In such a situation, tensions in the region have increased significantly. Biden said, “There is an opportunity in my view and my colleagues agree that we can deal with Israel and Iran in a way that ends the conflict for some time. This ends the conflict, in other words, it stops the back and forth.”
Work will have to be done on ceasefire in Lebanon.
Biden said he believed there was potential to work toward a ceasefire in Lebanon, but such efforts would be difficult in Gaza. Vows by Israel’s foes Hamas and Hezbollah to keep fighting it in Gaza and Lebanon dashed hopes on Friday that the death of Palestinian militant leader Yahya Sinwar could bring an end to more than a year of war in the Middle East.
