President’s rule removed from Jammu and Kashmir, way cleared for government formation; Home Ministry issued order

The way has now been cleared for the formation of a new government in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, according to an official order of the Home Ministry, the President’s rule has been lifted in Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for the formation of a government in the Union Territory. The Home Ministry repealed its earlier order of October 31, 2019, related to the imposition of President’s rule in the region. The latest order of October 13, 2024, repealed its 5-year-old order. With the implementation of this order, the new government led by Omar Abdullah has got official approval to take oath in the coming week.

“The order dated October 31, 2019, in respect of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir under Section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, immediately preceding the appointment of the Chief Minister, shall stand revoked,” the Home Ministry said in the order.

President’s rule was imposed in the year 2019

Let us tell you that after the repeal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, central rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on October 31, 2019. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 was passed by Parliament on August 5, 2019. On the same date, the state was divided into two parts – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Both were designated as Union Territories. In a historic move, the government repealed Article 370, which gave special status to the region.

National Conference will form the government.

In fact, in the recently concluded assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference-Congress alliance won a majority in the 90-seat assembly. After the decision of four independent MLAs to join the party, the NC touched the majority figure of 46 on its own. Omar Abdullah is all set to form the government in the new week. He met Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha on October 11 and submitted a letter of support to form the government. Omar was elected leader of the National Conference Legislature Party on Thursday. His father and party chief Farooq Abdullah had announced soon after the victory in the election that his Omar would be the Chief Minister of the Union Territory.
