Dussehra is celebrated all over the country, PM Modi gave his best wishes, the tallest effigy of Ravana was installed in Delhi

With the end of Navratri, the festival of Dussehra is being celebrated all over the country. Effigies of Ravana are being erected on the grounds of every city. Ravana Dahan will take place in the evening. The biggest effigy of Ravana has been installed in Dwarka Sector 10 of Delhi. PM Modi has wished all the countrymen a Happy Dussehra. PM Modi wrote, “Best wishes to the countrymen on Vijayadashmi. I wish that with the blessings of Maa Durga and Lord Shri Ram, you all achieve victory in every sphere of life.”

Rajesh Gehlot, the organizer of Dwarka Shri Ram Leela Society, which has put up the country’s biggest effigy, says, “It took around 4 months to make this effigy of Ravana. The cost was around Rs 30 lakh. You will get to see the tallest and most beautiful effigy of Ravana in Dwarka.”

President Murmu extended her best wishes.

President Draupadi Murmu on Friday extended her greetings to the countrymen on the eve of Vijayadashami and said that this festival inspires us to further strengthen our faith in higher human ideals. The festival of Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami and it symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The President said, “On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all the citizens of the country. The festival of Vijayadashami symbolizes the victory of justice over injustice.” She said, “This festival inspires us to further strengthen our faith in higher human ideals.” Murmu said, “Many inspiring stories of dignity, responsibility towards duty, purity in conduct, humility, and courageous struggle for justice are associated with this festival. These stories should be our source of inspiration.” She wished that this festival of faith and enthusiasm bring success, prosperity, and happiness to all.

Mannequins are visible everywhere in Delhi.

There is a lot of hustle and bustle in the Delhi market. Heads of demons are seen in rows at some places, torsos, and other body parts at other places. People are busy buying effigies. The famous area between Tagore Garden and Subhash Nagar is Asia’s largest market for effigies of 10-headed Ravana and his brothers. These effigies are available in sizes ranging from one foot to 50 feet and their price is around Rs 400 to Rs 700 per foot. According to Ramesh Rathod, who is making effigies for the first time, the money is not much, but it is enough. He has learned to make effigies from YouTube and has come here from Bangalore. 

Preparations for the procession in Mysuru

Preparations have been made for a grand procession in Mysuru. This procession will mark the grand conclusion of the 10-day prestigious ‘Mysore Dussehra’ celebrations at Chamundi Hills. Dussehra or ‘Sharana Navarathri’, celebrated as ‘Nada Habba’ (state festival), was grand this year. Thousands of people are expected to witness the ‘Jamboo Sawari’. Under this, a procession of a dozen decorated elephants will be taken out under the leadership of an elephant named ‘Abhimanyu’. During this, the procession moves forward by placing the idol of Chamundeshwari, the patron goddess of Mysuru city and the royal family, on a 750 kg howdah or ‘Ambari’. The grand procession will begin with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah worshipping the ‘Nandi Dhwaj’ (Nandi Flag) at the Balaram Gate of the palace at the auspicious time between 1.41 pm and 2.10 pm from the grand Amba Vilas Palace premises.
