Tiruvallur: An express train collided with a freight train at Kavarapettai railway station in the district. After the accident, two coaches of the Darbhanga Express caught fire. Railway sources say that the Darbhanga Express train collided with the rear of a freight train already parked on the railway track. According to the information received so far, two coaches have caught fire, while 12-13 coaches have derailed. The freight train has been more affected by the accident. Some passengers are also reported to be injured in the accident. The fire has been brought under control. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out.

According to the information received, this accident happened on Friday evening at around 08:30 near Kavarapeti railway station. During the accident, a goods train was already standing on the same track on which the Darbhanga Express train was going. Due to the darkness of the night, the loco pilot could not see the goods train and the train collided with the goods train from behind. After the accident, 12-13 coaches of the train derailed. Two coaches also caught fire. The NDRF team is also reaching the spot. Relief and rescue work is being done. At present, efforts are being made to control the fire. So far 10 injured have been admitted to the hospital.

At the same time, all the passengers are being taken to Chennai Central by EMU by the Railways. A new train has been prepared in Chennai to take the passengers to Darbhanga and other destinations including free food/water/breakfast.
