10 September History: On 10 September 1976, amidst the chaos of emergency in the country, an Indian Airlines plane was hijacked in a very dramatic way. On 10 September 1976, an Indian Airlines Boeing 737 plane took off from Delhi’s Palam Airport for Mumbai (then Bombay) with 66 passengers. On the way, two hijackers hijacked the aircraft by showing a pistol to the pilot.
The hijackers wanted to take the plane to Libya, but due to the wisdom of the pilot, the aircraft was taken to Lahore and there, with the cooperation of Pakistani authorities, the passengers and crew members were safely released.
