Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains in the news for some reason or the other. The latest case is related to broadcasting rights. the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was expecting that it would get a good amount of money in return for selling the broadcasting rights of international domestic matches but the opposite happened. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has received only half the amount of its reserve price kept for selling broadcasting rights.

The PCB had set the initial reserve price for the broadcasting rights of the Pakistan region at 3.2 billion Pakistani rupees but it got only 1.72 billion Pakistani rupees. In this way, the Pakistan Board has suffered a loss of about 1.48 billion Pakistani rupees. Let us tell you, under this broadcasting rights, 11 Test matches, 26 ODIs, and 24 T20I matches are included in the 2024-25 season. ODIs include some bilateral series and some triangular tournaments.

PCB in tension

Without sharing any figures, the PCB claimed that these broadcasting rights have been sold at more than double the price of the previous cycle (2021 to 2024). According to the information, the PCB recently sold the broadcasting rights of its Pakistan region to the consortium of ARY and Tower Sports for 28 months. After this, they claimed that it had been sold at a higher price than the previous agreement.

Contrary to the claims of the PCB, no major foreign broadcaster has shown interest in buying the broadcasting rights of Pakistan’s matches. It can be seen from this that Pakistan Cricket and its board are facing difficulties in raising money. This is an even more worrying situation for Pakistan considering that it is hosting the Champions Trophy next year.

PCB is unable to find a broadcaster

Meanwhile, the PCB is finding it difficult to find a broadcaster in England for the Pakistan and England Test series in October-November. Major broadcaster Sky Sports is not showing any interest in buying the rights to the matches of this series, which may increase the problems of the PCB. However, the Pakistan Board hopes to find a broadcaster from England soon.
