Mayawati supports ‘Bharat Bandh’, targets Congress and BJP, says there is a conspiracy to end reservation

Mayawati Supports Bharat Bandh: The Bahujan Samaj Party has supported the call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Wednesday regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on the creamy layer in reservation for Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes (SC-ST). BSP President Mayawati said on Wednesday, BSP supports the call for Bharat Bandh, because due to the anti-reservation conspiracy of BJP, Congress, and other parties and their collusion to make it ineffective and ultimately end it, there is huge anger and resentment among both the communities against the Supreme Court’s decision related to creamy layer in the sub-categorization of SC-ST on August 1, 2024.

a constitutional amendment should be brought

She said, in this regard, people of these classes will give a memorandum to the government under Bharat Bandh today and demand to abolish the changes made in reservation through constitutional amendment, which is appealed to be done in a disciplined and peaceful manner without any violence. Mayawati wrote, that the constitutional right of reservation given to OBC (other backward class) society along with SC-ST is the result of the continuous struggle of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the true messiah of these classes, whose necessity and sensitivity should not be understood by BJP, Congress and other parties and they should not play with it.

Bharat Bandh by Dalit tribal organizations

Dalit and tribal organizations have called for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Wednesday demanding stronger representation and protection for marginalized communities. The National Confederation of Dalit and Adivasi Organisations (NACDAOR) has released a list of demands that include justice and equality for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). The organization has taken a contrary view of the recent verdict by a seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court which, according to them, dilutes the nine-judge bench verdict in the landmark Indira Sawhney case that established the framework for reservation in India.

Demand to reject the decision from the government

NACDAOR has urged the government to repeal the decision as it is a threat to the constitutional rights of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The organization is also demanding the passage of a new law by the Parliament on reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs which should be protected with the inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
