The players of the Indian cricket team are preparing for the domestic tournament these days. Team India will return to international cricket in September. Meanwhile, the BCCI has given a big responsibility to former Team India batsman VVS Laxman. VVS Laxman will extend his tenure as the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for at least one year. His initial contract for three years expires in September 2024. In such a situation, the BCCI had to decide for this post and they have extended Laxman’s tenure.
Laxman will get the support of these veterans
Laxman was being considered for the head coach’s position by an IPL franchise but will now resume his role at the NCA and will have no role in the IPL. He is likely to be assisted by a team of coaches that includes Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar, all veterans of Indian domestic cricket. Laxman’s contract extension comes ahead of the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art NCA complex on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the foundation for which was laid in January 2022, 14 years after the Karnataka government acquired the land for the site and handed it over to the BCCI on a 99-year lease.
New NCA ready in Bengaluru
The new NCA will have at least 100 pitches, out of which 45 pitches are with indoor facilities. It will have three international-sized grounds, a modern rehab center, accommodation facilities, and an Olympic-sized pool, among many other facilities. The construction of the new NCA is in its final stages. This NCA is likely to be operational from early next year. During his first three-year tenure at the NCA, Laxman carried forward the processes laid down by his colleague Rahul Dravid for injury management, player rehab, coaching schedules, and creating a roadmap for women’s cricket.
